As someone said in comments in Frenk’s post below, bmx roots are in racing and we should keep it in mind. Started in 60’ in California as pure amateur pleasure, finally became one of the Olympic sports, still it is bmx though. Who watched Olympic racing last two days, must agree that was insane. Czech girls did not make a cut, it was expected for sure, they are not that good. Men’s final was nothing but one man show of defending champion Maris Strombergs, who made it again. I am stoked. Mecca of bmx was always America or Australia, now a guy from small eastern European country (Latvia) dominates the bmx world for more than six years now, making two Olympic gold in a row, that all despite serious injury he suffered two years ago, thus was out for almost a year. Well, Maris is only 25, but he is the legend already and probably the best bmx racer of all time. Olympic racing is over, I am already looking forward to next one, Rio de Janeiro 2016. Maybe Strombergs will gain gold triple, who knows.
One note, none of major Czech freestyle bmx websites has even mentioned that this amazing race is coming. What a shame. You guys don’t forget the roots!
